What happened to Ted Turner?

He has been such a reliable progressive douchebag for so many years that I'm confused when he acts like neither the Tin Woodsman nor the Scarecrow, in other words neither heartless nor brainless. Gaffney may praise T. Boone Pickens for the proposal to start producing American energy instead of giving all of America's money to oil exporting countries, but I can sense, the douchebag is strong in the Turner, so it is much more surprising to see sense out of Turner.
